Dear John....YES YES YES!!!!! (re: right-side comments) AWESOMELY PUT! I've been fighting the urge to respond myself but felt it would be out of place. You said everything perfectly. I never knew about the other expenses for damages. (Probably because you're a "Do-er" and not a "sit-back-and-complain-er")! You're awesome!

I've been looking forward to this for a while but are people going to become super Trekky? Are we going to have to hear about how each scene contradicts episodes 32 and 47 and why this would never have occurred in "reality"? I guess I'll just avoid the clusters of heated debates!

I wanted to see "Up" in 3-D but my three friends did not, so we saw it in Sunnyside. It was great, but looked like it would have been awesome in 3-D. :)

@meredith: yes, start time is 7:15 or so. Since the location is upper west, we have to be mindful that some people must leave early, so we have to start as early as we can. There should be some good special features to watch after the feature.

The Coraline DVD is unique - it needs the colored glasses. The really good 3D movies will be released as they are in the theaters, with the polarized glasses. But these require the next-gen HDTVs coming next year. The reviews of UP (all great) are mixed on whether the 3D or regular version is better - the regular version has richer colors, apparently. I saw UP 3 times, each time in IMAX 3D (with 3 diff dates, yeah, yeah), so I can't testify as to which version is better.

I didn't know that you had to have a special TV for 3-D. :C (My friend watched "Coraline" in 3-D at home, and she never seems to have a lot of money to spare, so I made assumptions.

I liked this movie even better the second time. Thanks to the great hosts for the usual warm welcome. I liked being able to go outside despite the rain! I hope next time the talkers will quiet down after the first SHHH and not the tenth.
    •  I really enjoyed watching the movie and meeting people but to be brutally honest I think you way over charged for the event. There wasnt much food there, and you bought hardly anything with the money you collected. I dont think you should be doing this to make money,
    •  It was great, I won the raffle and it was a great movie with great company. Couldnt ask for more. Thanks again Rich, John, Daniel and Tori

@myles: wow, $5. That has to cover the maid service ($30 each time), party supplies, condiments, etc., with leftover funds going toward extra food over what people bring. Oh, and hosts don't have to pay (a perk - they have to shop before, run the door, and pick up after). So how much does that leave for food? Maybe a couple of bucks per person? How much do you expect to eat for that? It's a *potluck* - if there's not much food, that's because people did not bring much. Lots of people bring wine. Over this year, we have probably lost an average of $20-30 per movie event at least. One movie event had a $220 broken lock bill, another event had $80 ripped off (we know who). Feel free to invite strangers to your own home and then see how quickly expenses add up. We say until we are blue in the face that the organizers do not make money (we are down around $1400 for the year after charity donations). If you don't believe us (since we 'way overcharge'), feel free to find another group.
    •  Great group! Great hosts!
    •  I was very disappointed. :(

The aspect ratio seemed "off" (not high enough - the actors' faces seemed "squished"), and it took me a long time to get used to it. The apartment was beautiful and the people were friendly! :)
