WATCHMEN!

A nearly 3-hour orgy of orchestrated violent vibrancy designed to perpetuate a whole new appreciation for ambitious, unconventional superhero expositions. Robustly confrontational and impishly raw. - Movie Eye

Another bold exercise in the liberation of the superhero movie. - Roger Ebert

Location

The location is a garden apartment - there is outdoor seating for socializing (if warm enough) and a medium-large room inside where we screen the movies.

The movies are shown indoors on a 58" Panasonic 1080P HDTV accompanied by a 5-speaker Orb Audio sound system. We keep the viewing room dark and the movies loud.

although I had not seen the movie or read the book/comics, I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't get too lost/caught up with missing details. The group was warm and inviting, and food was tasty. Looking forward to meeting up with everyone again. Thanks John for your hospitality.

@Evangelion217 - agreed. there's actually a companion philosophy event (at nyphilosophy.com, not yet open for rsvps) to explore exactly that

Thanks, Mike. Thanks, John. I liked the movie better this, the second-time. Despite the length, and my not liking BIG movies, I loved Watchmen. I liked that the film-makers were faithful to the 1986 novel and didn't hedge their bets by hiring big-name actors. I enjoyed seeing everyone, old and new. Thanks for the food!
    •  I didn't get to watch the whole movie, but what I saw was good. The credit sequence was brilliant!

It's always good to gather at John's and see him, Coco, Mike, Line, Dan, Tori, Kristana, etc. I'm glad I had seen WATCHMEN before, though- The guy sitting next to me laughed so much (most uproariously at clearly inappropriate moments: a woman getting gut punched/slammed into a pool table, people getting incinerated with flamethrowers etc.) that I was driven to distraction.
    •  Let me exaggerate a bit but not that much: seems Hollywood cinematographers carry nostalgia for Cold War times & Nixon-like in a White House which will justified as much violence on the screen as they can possibly produce & help to craft plot with a 'good' & feasible grounds. This one was more sophisticated in a way (or to put it bluntly not outright brainless) but not really different from heavily manipulative egregiously profit oriented blockbusters.
    •  A bit too long for the content given - a speedier shortened version of the movie, IMHO, would have kept my attention more.
    •  The movie looks gorgeous on blu ray. I noticed things that I didn't see during my previous viewings. It was great meeting new people, and I loved the food. :)

Thank you for sharing your home, Richie! :) Thanks to all the organizers. The guy laughing during inappropriate moments was *not* appreciated by me either.
